Join or Renew

All are welcome to join TLA—not only librarians, archivists and curators in performing arts collections, but also private collectors of performing arts memorabilia, performing arts scholars and teachers, librarians of all kinds who love the performing arts, performing artists of all kinds who love libraries, and anyone else who values information resources that serve performing arts research, education and production.

See below for details on how to pay your dues and/or make a donation online or by mail.

Membership categories:

  • PERSONAL membership is for an individual
  • STUDENTS and other NON-SALARIED individuals may join at a special reduced rate
  • INSTITUTIONAL membership is for use by the entire staff (and, in the case of libraries, the patrons) of an organization

Membership privileges:

  • PERFORMING ARTS RESOURCES - Features in-depth articles on resource materials in the fields of theatre, popular entertainment, film, television and radio, information on public and private collections, and essays on conservation and collection management of theatre arts materials. Published on an irregular schedule. (Members also may purchase back volumes of PAR and other TLA publications at discounted prices.)
  • BROADSIDE ONLINE - Newsletter of the Theatre Library Association. Features brief articles and news items related to exhibitions and collections, information about TLA-sponsored events, book reviews, and other items of interest in the fields of theatre, film, and dance. Published three times per year.
  • MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY ONLINE - The list of current TLA members, both personal and institutional, with their professional and contact details. Updated periodically.
  • SPECIAL MEMBER RATES FOR REGISTRATION AT TLA-SPONSORED CONFERENCES AND SYMPOSIA, including the annual ASTR/TLA Conference (jointly sponsored with the American Society for Theatre Research) in November. There is no charge for admission to the annual TLA Business Meeting and Awards Ceremony in October.
  • VOTING PRIVILEGES in elections of the Officers and Board of Directors, and on other matters which may be placed before the membership.

Membership in TLA is based on the calendar year (January-December), regardless of what time of the year a member joins.  Members joining after October 31, however, will be credited for the following year's dues.

Membership dues (per year):

  • Personal Members: $30
  • Students/Non-Salaried Members: $20
  • Institutional Members: $40

Attention Non-U.S. Members:

In order to defray the rising costs of international postage, members with non-U.S. mailing addresses are now required to pay a $10 surcharge.
